Hemp hearts have gained popularity in recent years due to their nutritional benefits and versatility in cooking. Frequently Asked Question About Hemp Hearts

What are hemp hearts, and why are they considered a complete protein?
Hemp hearts are the soft, inner kernels of the hemp seed after the shell has been removed (hulled). They are considered a complete protein because they contain all nine essential amino acids necessary for the human body. This makes them an excellent, easily digestible source of plant-based protein.
Hemp hearts are highly nutrient-dense. A standard 3-tablespoon serving (30g) provides approximately 10 grams of protein and is rich in essential minerals like magnesium, iron, potassium, and zinc. They are also a significant source of healthy fatty acids and antioxidants, including Vitamin E.
They contain a high concentration of healthy polyunsaturated fats, notably Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids, often found in an ideal ratio (e.g., 2:1 or 3:1) for human health. Uniquely, they also contain Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA), which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and potential benefits for skin and joint health.
Hemp hearts are highly versatile and can be consumed raw or roasted. They can be sprinkled onto oatmeal, yogurt, and salads, blended into smoothies, or used in baking recipes for added texture and nutrition. Storing them in an airtight container in a cool, dark place helps prevent the healthy fats from oxidizing and becoming rancid.
Hemp hearts are legal and widely accepted for consumption in India. They do not produce any psychoactive effects as the industrial hemp they are derived from contains only negligible traces of the psychoactive compound THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) permits the sale of hemp seeds and hemp seed flour as food products.
